As a teenager myself, '"good kids" still had to go behind their parents back for a drink and drugs were considered only as what bad guys used.
Today's teens are exposed via the media to substance abuse and alcoholism statistics each day. Hollywood has a tendency to make things like alcohol and drug abuse look attractive. When young people see their role models playing addicts but remaining healthy, popular the beautiful, they can lose sight of the dangers of substance abuse.
A lot of teens have cash to spend, making it very easy for them to get their hands on alcohol or drugs. Thus, teen addiction and substance abuse has become part of the coming of age process for some rich teenagers.
If parents would step up to the plate and teach their children about the very real consequences of drug and alcohol abuse instead of leaving it to the media and other people around them, children would demonstrate more responsible behavior.
